POSITION OVERVIEW
The PreK–8 Principal serves as the instructional and organizational leader of the school, fostering an effective learning climate, supporting teachers, and ensuring student success. The principal works closely with staff, families, and the community to promote a safe, positive, and engaging environment that supports academic and social-emotional growth. The principal works directly with the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a M.S. in Educational Leadership/Administration
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative or Principal endorsement.
Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
Prior administrative experience preferred
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
Serves as a curriculum and instructional leader to the teachers.
Supervise the instructional programs of the school, observing classes on a regular basis with continual feedback for teachers.
Implement established procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters.
Establish and maintain procedures that create attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
Communicate effectively with all stakeholders on a regular basis to ensure positive
public relations.
Supervise and evaluate the school’s extracurricular programs.
Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
Participates in professional growth and development through membership and participation in professional organizations, through attendance at conferences, workshops, meetings, by reading professional journals, and enrollment in advanced courses.
Establishes a master teaching schedule and all special assignments.
Orients new staff members and assists in their development.
Conducts staff meetings, as necessary.
Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary.
Attends and supervises special events held to recognize student achievement, school board meetings, committee meetings, IEP meetings, and school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events
Establish schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas
(including before and after school/inside recess/playground zones).
Assists in planning and development of teacher institutes and school improvement days.
Assists with supervisory duties before, after, and during the school day.
Establishes testing schedules.
Assists in the development and implementation of plans/agendas for Professional Learning Communities.
Communicates with the Superintendent regularly about the needs, successes and general operation of the school, including any problems or potential problems.
Performs any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
