Dear HMS Families,
It is bittersweet that I am writing to inform you that I will be retiring from High Mount School District 116 on June 30, 2026. I have greatly enjoyed serving this community over the past seven years. High Mount School is full of wonderful students and teachers, who I will greatly miss. HMS is a very special place and I will forever cherish my time at High Mount!
I am also pleased to announce that our current principal, Mrs. April Becherer, will be stepping into the role of Superintendent following my retirement. Her strong leadership and deep understanding of our district makes her exceptionally well-suited to continue guiding us forward. Mrs. Becherer will begin as Superintendent on July 1, 2026.
As a result of these changes, we are now actively searching for a new principal for HMS. We are committed to finding a leader who will continue to support academic excellence, student well-being, and a positive school culture. I am confident that we will find someone, like Mrs. Becherer, who will continue to be dedicated to our students and families. We will proceed to build upon Mrs. Becherer’s work and carry out the excellence she has established at High Mount School.
I want to personally thank you for the support you have provided me during my tenure within the district. I would also like to publicly recognize the Board of Education. It is difficult to put into words how dedicated the Board is to High Mount. The district is very fortunate to have such supportive, free thinking, and committed individuals to serve at the helm.
Sincerely,
Dr. Beth A. Horner
Superintendent
